Body dysmorphia or body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) develops over time. It can manifest from automatic negative thoughts and views about one’s body or appearance to compulsive rituals, behaviours and beliefs about oneself. It can lead to an avoidance of certain situations, things, places or people and anxious, panic or depressive symptoms. It can be isolating and affect many areas of your life. Therapy can support you to uncover the depth of negative beliefs, triggers and provide techniques (CBT or CBT as part of an integrated approach is often recommended) to manage, divert and interrupt ingrained patterns of thought or behaviour.
